Work began in 1970 on Lake Wynonah by a company in Tennessee. In 1974, the Lake Wynonah Property Owners Association (LWPOA) was established and continues to govern the community's operation today.
The Lake Wynonah community has an active civic association which sponsors activities for all property owners (Easter Egg hunt, Mardi Gras weekend, New Years Eve, Halloween, etc). An active boating and fishing committee keeps both lakes stocked with bass, trout, northern pike, catfish, and walleye and has an annual fishing rodeo in June.
