The borough of Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, is known as "the little town that could", and includes a vibrant downtown, with a centrally located old time, restored train station which houses borough hall, local shops and eateries, and Bubeck Park which includes Stoyer's Dam, a scenic little small town park and recreational area known it's local swan population and fishing in the summer, and ice skating in the winter.
Residential sections in the borough include "the Avenues", and "Columbia Heights" near Stoyer's dam. Residential developments nearby include "Sunnyside" subdivision in North Manheim Township just southeast of the borough, and "Chestnut Hill" Subdivision in the borough of Cressona, which is just off Rt. 183 to the west.
Schuylkill Haven is bordered by scenic farmlands, mountains, and the Schuylkill River passes by "The Island" park, where you will find soccer fields, skate park and pavilions and great firework displays for special events.
Schuylkill Haven was settled in 1750 and is located in southern Schuylkill County. Schuylkill Haven borders South Manheim Township to the south, with Cressona Borough to the west.
Schuylkill Haven is part of the Schuylkill Haven Area School District. It includes 3 schools, all within walking distance of downtown. Schuylkill Haven School District also serves part of the Lake Wynonah community.
Orwigsburg is located just to the south of Schuylkill Haven, and Pottsville, the county seat, is to the north. Major roads include Pa Rt. 61, Rt. 183, and Rt. 443. Schuylkill Haven PA is located just north of I-78, and south of I-80. It is within 35 minutes of Reading and Allentown, close to Cabela's sporting goods superstore, and the shopping malls. Golf fans will enjoy the Schuylkill Country Club nearby.
According to the US Census Bureau, the Borough of Schuylkill Haven has a total area of 1.4 square miles, all of which is land. The latest population as of the 2000 census was 5548.
